Hazmat & WMD Training

Training for hazardous materials response in containment, confinement, decontamination, first responder and incident command. Instruction emphasizes protecting people, property and the environment. Courses and consulting in hazardous materials response include: Hazardous Materials, Inland SAR, & Field Exercise Design Training, WMD Awareness, Operations, and Technician Level Couses.


Hazardous Materials, Inland SAR, & Field Exercise Design Training

Hazardous Materials Technician Refresher

This course satisfies the yearly recertification requirements for Hazardous Materials Technicians in accordance with 29CFR1910.120(q)(8)(i). Hazardous Materials Technician Refresher

This 80-hour course is conducted in two consecutive weeks and meets the requirements of 29CFR1910.120(q)(6)(iii)(I).The target audience are Public Safety personnel who are or will be assigned as primary responders to hazardous materials incidents. Prerequisite - Hazardous Materials Technician Chemistry

The target audience are Public Safety personnel who are or will be assigned as primary responders to hazardous materials incidents. WMD Awareness Level Courses

WMD Radiological/Nuclear Awareness
The course is provided by the Hawaii Department of Health, Noise, Radiation, and Indoor Air Quality Branch. See course description. 2005 Course dates: May 26, June 30, and August 25. The course is also offered by individual agencies. Conact Ken Lesperance or your agency training officer.

Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings-Awareness
This course will be hosted by the State Sheriff.� Please contact Ken Lesperance for details.

National Incident Management System (NIMS)
Basic NIMS training can be taken online at: NIMS. Agencies can facilitate their own training under the guidance of the Department of Homeland Security. For details, contact Ken Lesperance.


WMD Operations Level Courses

Emergency Medical Services Operations and Planning for WMD PER-211
This course will be scheduled when requested by a host agency. This three-day course will prepare intermediate and advanced EMS personnel for with triage and treatment of WMD patients. Students will demonstrate triage, mass decontamination, treatement, and stabilization. Housing may be availible for neighbor island responders at a nominal cost. Emergency Response to Domestic Biological Incidents PER-220
Emergency Response to Domestic Biological Incidents will be scheduled when requested by a host agency. If interested, contact Ken Lesperance.

Public Works: Preparing for & Responding to Terrorism/WMD
This course will be scheduled when requested by a host agency. Prerequisites of Basic Incident Command System and Terrorism Awareness will be offerred to those interested in Public Works Class. For interested in course or for more information, call Ken Lesperance.

WMD: Defensive Operations for Emergency Responders
This course will be scheduled when an agency has agreed to host the course. This 3-day course includes use of Level B personal protective equipment. Contact Ken Lesperance for course description.


WMD TCH Level Courses

Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings-Technician
Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings-Technician Consult website at www.emrtc.nmt.edu/ for schedule. This four day course is a Technician Level and Train the Trainer course. Students are expected to teach the Awareness Level course to their agency upon completion of the course. All course, travel, and lodging costs for state and local personnel will be covered by EMRTC. Private sector and federal employees are responsible for all costs. Agency representatives can contact Ken Lesperance for information or an application.

WMD Incident Command Training Course/WMD Hands on Training Course
WMD Incident Command Training Course/WMD Hands on Training (HOT) Course back-to-back classes. This set of classes in for those who are not Hazmat Technicians. For specific dates, consult the calendar at: http://www.cdptraining.com/Training-calendar.htm. WMD Incident Command and WMD Hands on Training (HOT) Course are scheduled in a back-to-back, week long training session. This set of classes is for responders who are not Hazmat Technicians. WMD Technical Emergency Response/Incident Command

WMD Technical Emergency Response Training Course (TERT)/Incident Command offered as back-to-back classes.
