Terrorist Activity

Be on the lookout for suspicious terrorist activity. According to the National Terror Alert Response Center, if you see suspicious behavior, do not confront the individuals involved.  We must train ourselves to be on the lookout for things that are out of the ordinary and arouse suspicions.

Tsunami Teacher and the ITIC

As a contribution to the building of training to support the communication of tsunami risk to the public, the IOC of UNESCO has developed the TsunamiTeacher Information and Resource Toolkit. The Toolkit brings together a wealth of new and existing information on tsunamis into a single, reliable, and verified global resource that is widely accessible to people, groups, and governments around the world. TsunamiTeacher aims to build awareness and capacity to respond and mitigate the impact of tsunamis through the sharing of knowledge, research, and best practices.

Since September 11, 2001, Americans are more aware than ever of the threat of terrorist acts on home soil. In the days following the attacks, we saw immediate and selfless volunteering, generous monetary gifts, blood donations, and an outpouring of support and patriotism across America. Sustaining that spirit of volunteerism and unity is crucial to defending the freedoms America holds dear.

Americans are working together to strengthen their communities. President George W. Bush is working to support community-based efforts through the newly-proposed Citizen Corps. This broad network of volunteer efforts will harness the power of the American people by relying on their individual skills and interests to prepare local communities to effectively prevent and respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, or any kind of disaster.

The CNMI Office of Homeland Security is presently establishing a Citizen Corps Advisory Council for the CNMI that will be responsible in ensuring that the Citizen Corps mission and goals is taken to the community level.  Through the CNMI Citizen Corps, it is envisioned that the CNMI community will be one that is aware, prepared, and responsive to any disaster, may it be natural or man-made.  Contact the CNMI Office of Homeland Security for more information.
